Emmanuel is a congregation of the Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa. The denomination stretches from Zambia to Zimbabwe to South Africa.
The congregation was planted in 1992 by Trinity Congregation in Lynnwood under the guidance of Rev Tim Horwood and Rev Chris Moore. Initially we met in the hall of Glenstantia Primary School in Constantia Park in the eastern suburbs of Pretoria.
The congregation called Chris and he served the congregation faithfully until 1997 when he moved to another congregation. Brenda and Theo Groeneveld were called in May 1997. We have grown steadily and moved into our new building in 2002 after a very exciting building project. In 2006 we added the stunning porte-cochere office. In 2010 we built the foyer classroom.
Our services are geared around worship, celebration, and teaching. In our worship we are neither traditional nor contemporary, but attempt to embrace the best of all worship “styles” in what we like to call “family-centred worship.”
We have a comfortable mixture of traditional and contemporary styles. Our services are comfortable and relaxed. Children participate on a weekly basis and are part of the service for the first fifteen minutes before going off to their “King’s Kids” classes. People smile a lot in our services, participate in prayers, feel comfortable to come forward for prayers of healing and to share what God has done in their lives.
All of this is done in a dignified and worshipful manner. The preaching is Bible-centred and applicable to daily life and our emphasis is to be better equipped as followers of Jesus.
You can learn about the staff here and our contact details are here..
We see ourselves as a warm, caring, family-oriented community and have various activities which extend the fellowship of the congregation.
We believe these are our strong qualities:
- Warm and friendly family-oriented worship
- A mix of traditional and modern music
- A dignified yet informal style of worship
- Good solid teaching
- A caring community.
