“The congregations of Emmanuel and Grace decided to participate in the 30th anniversary of the Toy Run. An opportunity for motorcycle enthusiasts from around the country to show their softer side and collect cuddly toys for charity. The date of the Toy Run was the 25th November 2012, conveniently co-insiding with the end of year Harvest Service. A time when we can pour all the blessings we have received from God out before Him, thanking Him for all His goodness, provision and greatness. In total, 11 bikes from the two congregations arrived to participate. We had a wide variety of bikes ranging from the ever ominous Harley Davidson’s to the speedy Ducati with a fair mix of old and new BMW’s. A KTM and Triumph thrown in to ensure it was not a one sided affair.
The bikers arrived and parked in a guard of honour in the driveway to the church before the service. Pimped out their bikes by attaching soft toys to them with cable ties. Charlene even had a big Teddy as passenger! The congregation mingled between the bikes and it was wonderful how many joined in the fun, by either bringing toys or spending the time to knit some. All the bikes, panniers, topboxes and rugsacks were filled to the brim with cute furry creatures.
After the service we all took a slow drive down the highway to the Benoni Northerns Sports grounds where we added to the ever growing pile of toys. Thousands of motorbikes, motorcyclist and spectators were there, cars were strictly prohibited. After dropping off the toys some made for a quick drive home, while others enjoyed the exbo carnival feel. Ultimately everyone made it home safely and we thank God that we had the opportunity to experience His blessing on the day and in our lives.”
