CHILDREN’s ADDRESS
LK 15:21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. ‘ 22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.‘ So they began to celebrate.

SERMON

LK 18:9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men–robbers, evildoers, adulterers–or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

What’s wrong with the world?

What is the danger of not confessing?

  1. Self-Centered
  2. Judgmental
  3. Works focussed
  4. Becomes his own God – soliloquy.

Confession:

Clear perception of self
Genuine repentance
Hopeful Confession

Conclusion

Do you pray or soliloquize?

Confession makes all the difference.

Not because we are beating ourselves up, but because our hope is in God.
