Sermon Recordings MP3 Post:-

2011-04-17am Palm Sunday: Branches, Cloaks and Stones

Luke 19:28-44

A sense of history

1.Ride on, ride on, in majesty
hark all the tribes hosanna cry
O Saviour meek, pursue Your road
With palms and scattered garments strowed.

ZEC 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion!
Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
righteous and having salvation,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

History tells us that Judas Maccabeus rode triumphantly into Jerusalem and the people laid palm branches before him. Palm trees live for about 200 years and so some of the leaves that the crowds picked for Jesus came from the same trees!
But Jesus does not conclude his victory with this donkey ride – He initiates His victory with the ride on a donkey – not for humility, but for peace!

2.Ride on, ride on, in majesty
In lowly pomp ride on to die
O Christ Your triumphs now begin
o’er captive death and conquered sin

3.Ride on, ride on, in majesty
the wing’ed squadrons of the sky
Look down with sad and wondering eyes
to see the approaching sacrifice

4.Ride on, ride on, in majesty
Your last and fiercest strife is nigh
The Father on His sapphire throne
Awaits His own anointed Son

5.Ride on, ride on, in majesty
In lowly pomp ride on to die
Bow Your meek head to mortal pain
Then take O,God Your power and reign!
